Supply chain integration
One of the keys to success, we find, is to manage projects well and to make the most of all the resources available. We are happy to use any resource which will bring value, whether that be client personnel, specialist consultants or sub contractors.
We have all the capability to undertake the design, engineering and construction of a wide range of simple and complex projects. Unlike some of our contemporaries, however, we do not insist that we alone know best. The most vivid example is of specialist sub contractors who have in depth knowledge of several installations and have lower overheads. They can be used for their design capability without an automatic commitment to being selected to carry out the installation work, thus preserving the competitive edge.
Integrating others within the team requires careful management and co-ordination. This is part of our normal business and we have the experience of making it work effectively. Some of the benefits we see are:
- improved buy-in to proposals
- better cost estimation and control
- better value for money
- improved risk analysis and management
- promotes innovation based on in depth knowledge and experience
- realistic programming
- improved understanding of constructability issues
- use of previous site experience
- better teamworking to meet project objectives
- better control of health, safety, quality and environmental issues
- better use of latest technology available
- quicker project start-up as contractors already understand the project.
This is one of the areas where we excel and has been one of the factors in our awards by the ECI for best practice.
