Concept studies
Even in the best run businesses, the temptation is to assume what needs to be done and rush into capital expenditure to address a problem or opportunity. We all know, however, that good early groundwork reduces project timescales, decreases the risk of things going wrong later and helps to smooth the way to obtaining capital sanction.
Our strength is that we understand manufacturing and research businesses and their drivers from an operational point of view, as well as the design, engineering and procurement of new and upgraded facilities.

Our clear objective at this stage is to work closely with key stakeholders in value management and brainstorming meetings to:
- understand the business need and feasibility study results
- quantify the relative importance of objectives and the factors affecting them.
This provides an excellent foundation for subsequent stages and the basis for us to develop several proposals for discussion as well as agreeing the best viable option or options to move to the next stage.
Typical deliverables could be:
- process flow diagrams
- room layouts
- finishes schedules
- material and personnel movement diagrams
- review of utilities and working environment requirements
- main process equipment list with data sheets
- a strategy for long delivery items
- list of validation activities required
- provisional programme for project completion
- a typical cost estimate of ±20%.
