Evaluation of options for novel fabric coating machinery

[Engineered solutions: fabric coating machinery]

Our client was analysing a number of manual and semi-automated techniques for applying a suspension to a nonwoven substrate for use in the production of a novel range of coated fabrics, using small scale plant and machinery. They were also considering the option of contracting out the coating process and were working with a specialist supplier to develop an alternative technology.

CEL was commissioned to ensure that the implications of scaling up the in-house technology were fully considered and to provide engineering support during development of the alternative technology.

CEL responsibilities

  • Review of technologies
  • Options for automating manual technology
  • Plant and equipment concept design
  • Process flow diagrams of full facility
  • Optimisation of equipment
  • Sourcing suppliers
  • Technical risk analysis and remediation
  • Budgeting and programming

Key features

  • Integrated teamwork
  • Substantial utilisation increase
  • Maximum use of proprietary equipment
  • Bespoke equipment designed based on cost/benefit
