Evaluation of options for novel fabric coating machinery
![[Engineered solutions: fabric coating machinery]](graphics/pm_invst.jpg)
Our client was analysing a number of manual and semi-automated techniques for applying a suspension to a nonwoven substrate for use in the production of a novel range of coated fabrics, using small scale plant and machinery. They were also considering the option of contracting out the coating process and were working with a specialist supplier to develop an alternative technology.
CEL was commissioned to ensure that the implications of scaling up the in-house technology were fully considered and to provide engineering support during development of the alternative technology.
CEL responsibilities
- Review of technologies
- Options for automating manual technology
- Plant and equipment concept design
- Process flow diagrams of full facility
- Optimisation of equipment
- Sourcing suppliers
- Technical risk analysis and remediation
- Budgeting and programming
Key features
- Integrated teamwork
- Substantial utilisation increase
- Maximum use of proprietary equipment
- Bespoke equipment designed based on cost/benefit
