Using vats for multiple products with CIP is a first within Diageo and a number of conflicting demands between cleanliness and safety requirements were overcome. The plant includes safety features associated with the storage of hazardous substances and CEL completed the associated process design for these elements. The project was completed on time and within budget on both phases.
CEL responsibilities
- Main contractor
- Designed and built the plant on an EPCM basis
- Process design for storage of hazardous substances
Key features
- 15 x 120m3 vats in two phases, capable of holding all non-whisky spirits and drinks products ranging in strength from 15–96.4% alcohol
- Hard-wired overfill protection systems, bunds, ATEX rated equipment, foam pouring fire protection systems
- All vessels and routes can be hot CIP cleaned and the first phase included a CIP set. The project was designed around mixproof valve technology which allows multiple operations including CIP to run simultaneously.
